Inaugurated in 2004, this museum in Aarhus houses international collections of modern and contemporary art.

Aarhus has always suffered from its provincial status, yet the city has one of the most important art museums in Scandinavia. Opened on April 8, 2004, the "White Diamond" imposes its cubic shape masterfully on the urban landscape. In fact, it is a circle enclosed by a square, or to be precise in geometry, a cylinder in a cube, topped with an iridescent halo since 2018. It is a work by Olafur Eliasson, Your Rainbow Panorama, inside which you circulate, surrounded by the prism of light.

No less than ten floors connected by a gigantic spiral staircase allow access to the exhibition rooms. The top floor is devoted to the Golden Age and Danish Modernism (1770-1930), while the lower floors (1, 5 and 6) are devoted to international collections of modern and contemporary art. There are works by Andy Warhol, the Dane Per Kirkeby, and a monumental sculpture by Ron Mueck, The Boy - a crouching young man made of fiberglass who watches over the museum from a height of 5 meters! An impressive realism. Or this textile work by Johanna Vasconcelos, Valkyrie Ràn, from 2016. 50 meters of colorful fabrics that invade the space.

On the top floor, you can access the terrace (from May to October), which holds a nice surprise: an incredible view of the city. The museum regularly organizes temporary exhibitions of international renown.

Superbe

I visited this museum, beautiful exhibitions but what is remarkable it is its giant contact with under floor: " The Boy " , a symbolic figure of the museum of 5m high representative a squatted child! Remarkable realism!
