ABBEY OF SAINTE-MARIE DE LONGUES
An imposing abbey, founded in 1168, with a refectory housing the tombstones of the lords of Argouges and a beautiful garden.
Just outside the village, this imposing abbey was built in 1168 by Hugues Wac, a descendant of a companion of William the Conqueror. Most of the buildings visible today date from the 13th and 14th centuries. The refectory features the tombstones of the Lords of Argouges and a fine collection of Pré-d'Auge glazed tiles. There's also a delightful monastic garden. The abbey was listed as a historic monument in 2006.

I went there during the 80th anniversary of D-day and it was a real delight to be able to see this beautiful place! There was at this time an exposition going on of a Belgian collector of US WW2 medical supplies, he had a whole hospital post set up in one of the old buildings on the property.
The owners were there to answer any questions and the whole restauration project seems very impressive. They are very passionate about it.
Some more archeological research is still being done.
