Cathedral in Lisieux, a jewel of Norman Gothic art, with a magnificent axial chapel and stained-glass windows by Gaudin.
A jewel of Gothic art, it is the first jewel in the crown of Lexovia's religious heritage. Construction began in 1160 under the aegis of Bishop Arnoult (Gothic nave, flying buttresses) and was completed in 1218 (Gothic choir, ambulatory, lantern tower). 110 m long and built largely of limestone from the Touques Valley, it features chapels adorned with 18th-19th-century paintings and stained-glass windows by Gaudin and Gsell. The Chapelle de la Vierge, where Soeur Thérèse took Holy Communion, is of outstanding beauty (15th-century bas-reliefs).
