This charming village is home to one of the country's oldest monasteries. Beautifully situated near a waterfall in the middle of the forest, the Tismana monastery was founded in 1375. It housed an important treasure trove that has been damaged over the centuries. Some of the precious objects are on display at the National Art Museum in Bucharest. Today, the site is home to a community of nuns. Every year on August 15, the village organizes an interesting folk festival featuring dances, shepherd music, costumes and handicrafts.
