Located at the bottom of a natural cove, the village has no other interest than its port, which saw the arrival of the first breadfruit tree. It is to the famous Captain Blight that the Caribbean owes this plant, even if this man of the sea is more known for his misadventures with the Bounty. In 1795, the famous captain on his way back from the Pacific Ocean, stopped in Jamaica where he unloaded his precious organic cargo in Port Morant. Replanted in the botanical gardens of Bath, a nearby spa, the breadfruit tree adapted and proliferated. Its fruit became an ingredient in Jamaican cuisine. Today, Port Morant is an agricultural export port.
