At the edge of the Kirimiro and the Bweru, which flourished further north, towards Muyinga, Karuzi (which is also sometimes written Karusi) is a small town that only a few summits separate from the wide Ruvubu. In full Development since the RN of the RN 12 between Gitega and Muyinga, Karuzi is in fact in the municipality Buhiga, which is another small urban centre located 12 km north, and which is the head of province Karuzi. Do you follow?Karuzi and Buhiga compete somewhat in their urban dimensions. It is in Buhiga that there is a large Protestant mission, a hospital (which has long been the only one in the province) and an important high school, but it is at Karuzi that beats the province's historic heart. It is also in Karuzi that the offer of accommodation is now the most important. At the gates of the Parc de la Ruvubu, Karuzi and Buhiga have some advantages, even if there is little to do outside of a few walks. These are pleasant places, which are worth describing as urban, so the houses are scattered in the different neighbourhoods that make them up. Some of the colonial times are quite remarkable in Karuzi, although in poor condition, for example, near the Prince Rwagasore monument, near the Provincial Directorate of Education (ECD). Memorials were also erected to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the country's independence.Overall, this whole region has suffered a great deal from the war, and that is still feeling, just as there are still recurring food problems. Several international ngos are set up to help the population, and Christian missions are trying to remedy significant health and education deficiencies.
