It's a very charming little town situated on the shores of a lake (Lake Chungjuho), at the foot of the mountains, offering an ideal setting in which to recharge your batteries. It is inevitably reminiscent of another such town in France, Annecy. Originally, the first Danyang (Gu Danyang) was not located here, but due to a flood, it had to be moved to its current location and took the name Sin Danyang. The town lies at the gateway to the famous Sobaeksan National Park, in the heart of a region extremely rich in caves and caverns. However, Danyang's fame rests mainly on its eight "wonders". What are they? They are simply unusual rock formations that really stand out. Among these natural wonders are the cliffs of Gudamdong (구담동) and Oksunbong (옥순봉) overlooking the lake; the rock formations of Sangseon-am (상선암), Jungseon-am (중선암) and Haseon-am (하선암) in the Woraksan valley; the cliffs of Sain-am (사인암) as well as the peaks of Dodamsabong (도담사봉). A paradise for nature lovers and those looking for a peaceful getaway from the capital.
