Rue des foundouks, designed to accommodate nearly 100 merchant caravans, 45 of which are used for commercial purposes

Intended for the reception of merchant caravans going from city to city, the foundouks (caravanserais in the Near East) are not lacking in Marrakech! There are about 100 of them, 45 of which are used for commercial purposes. A programme, supported by the King, has for several years been aimed at rehabilitating the architecture of these buildings so that they can become places of direct marketing. On either side of Souk Ahl Fes Street, you can see several of them, some specialized in working with skins, others in wrought iron.
