BAB TAGHZOUT
The original Almoravid gateway or Bab Taghzout, in a less touristy district, is a powerful defensive vestige in Marrakech
This gate of Almoravid origin once marked the northern entrance to Marrakech. Now enclosed within the city's walls, Bab Taghzout is a powerful vestige of the city's defences and a testimony to its expansion. Its sober decoration expresses the spirit of the city's founders. From here, you can head back down to the medina along Rue Dar Saboun, which leads straight to the Ben Youssef mosque. This little-touristed district seems to live outside the hectic pace of the souks and city center.
