ALMOHAD KASBAH
Kasbah built by the Almohads, located south of the medina, is a residence still frequented by Mohammed VI, the current king
This citadel was built by the Almohads when, upon their arrival, they found that the existing space was too small to accommodate their families, imams and personal guards. It was therefore Yacoub el Mansour who undertook the construction of this isolated district to the south of the medina, defended by Bab er Robb. All that remains of the original kasbah is the Pommes d'Or mosque. In the 18th century, Sidi Mohammed ben Abdallah had the Royal Palace (Dar el-Makhzen) built, a residence still frequented by today's King Mohammed VI.
