The best restaurants New Glarus

Charming little coffee in a small house at 2 nd Street and 6 th Avenue. Above the Das Alte Victorian Haus art store on the ground floor, small room on the first floor with a few tables. Freshly brewed sandwiches and coffee. In the hall at the top of the stairs, photos of New Glarus at the beginning of the century: apart from its paved roads, the village has not changed much. Nice place to take a break.

The restaurant's rough wooden room creates an authentic atmosphere, allowing you to fully enjoy a cheese fondue, a platter of cold meats or even a schnitzel. It's all very good. Behind the bar, you can see an old cheese vat made of polished recycled copper, which has been turned into an extractor hood above the fire. Just for the record, the Glarner Stube boasts the largest urinal in the Midwest... A New Glarus must-see! Don't forget to book, the place is known and the room is quickly packed.

This is the other institution in New Glarus, where you come to taste... Swiss specialties, of course. Everything is there: excellent cheese fondue, raclette, cheese and charcuterie platters, and other authentic Swiss dishes with unpronounceable names that will delight the taste buds of meat and cheese lovers. There are two areas: the small room towards the entrance, very cosy, which houses the bar (ask to be seated there); and the large room at the back, less charming but friendly because it often hosts musicians.
