Nestled in a bay on Lake Superior, the city is ringed with parks. The tourist core is located around the Waterfront District and on Red River and Cumberland Streets, where many bars and restaurants are located. There are several art galleries and thematic museums, as well as a monument to Terry Fox. This courageous one-legged young man completed a 5,342-kilometre run here before succumbing to cancer. The port of Thunder Bay is unique. Once a meeting place for trappers, it is now a major world port with one of the largest grain handling facilities in the world.
