Built between 1829 and 1832, it features Palladian and neoclassical architectural styles. It houses the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Divisional Court of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Law Society of Upper Canada. Osgoode Hall covers six acres and was acquired by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1829. The name Osgoode Hall pays tribute to William Osgoode, the province's first Chief Justice. The building has undergone more than ten major restorations, but its front facade has remained virtually unchanged since its conception in 1860. The interior of Osgoode Hall features unique architectural achievements, including historic courtrooms dating from the late 19th century. The Grand Library, considered Canada's finest, boasts an intricate ceiling, cork floors and a triple-cube design. The rotunda is spectacular, with its original tiling, elegant vaulted columns and oil paintings of former chief justices of the province. Since 1840, Osgoode Hall has been co-owned by the Ontario government and the Law Society. Osgoode Hall is currently home to the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Superior Court of Justice and the Law Society of Upper Canada.
