In this rural province, which is dotted with tiny "towns" - a term used when about 60 people are gathered around a "general store" - Regina, the provincial capital, is a major metropolis with 226,400 people including the metropolitan area (2021). It is the second largest city in the province after Saskatoon and owes its name to Queen Victoria(regina being Latin for "queen"). Among its highlights are the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Heritage Centre and the huge green space in the heart of the city, the Wascana Centre, where many points of interest are gathered.
