PORT-CARTIER-SEPT-ÎLES WILDLIFE RESERVE
Wildlife reserve located in the boreal forest sector near the cities of Port-Cartier and Sept-Îles.
Covering a vast area of 6,423 km², this wildlife reserve is located in the boreal forest sector near the towns of Port-Cartier and Sept-Îles, from which it takes its name. A favorite spot for outdoor activities (including sport fishing), the reserve boasts more than 1,000 bodies of water, 15 rivers and wide stretches of wilderness. Speckled trout and salmon abound in pristine waters: 75% of the reserve's lake resources have never been fished. Majestic scenery in a superb natural setting.
Reception posts: Walker Lake, 27 km north of Port-Cartier (late May to early September) and Arthur Lake (early June to early September). Off-season: report to the administrative office in Port-Cartier.
Wildlife: moose, black bear, wolf, lynx, fox, hare, porcupine, beaver, mink, otter, marten and a multitude of bird species, including ruffed grouse and spruce grouse, speckled trout, Atlantic salmon, lake smelt, Arctic char and whitefish.
Lodging: cottages, Modik cabins, Étoile ready-to-camp, camping.
Equipment rentals: watercraft, outboard motors, fishing rods, life jackets. Access rights and permits for hunting and fishing.
Activities: water sports, moose, small game and black bear hunting, wildlife observation, fishing (day and overnight), salmon fishing, ice fishing, hiking.
