The Dinosaur Trail is located in the Drumheller Valley, 138 km northeast of Calgary. More than 10,000 years ago, melting glaciers carved a deep valley in this area and exposed the fossils of dinosaurs that lived on these subtropical plains. The Red Deer River is the main axis of the Badlands, which break up the Alberta plains. A visit to the Royal Tyrrell Museum is a must and should be complemented by a drive up Highway 898 to enjoy the view from the Horsethief Canyon.
