Once a collection of North West Mounted Police barracks, Fort Macleod (founded in 1874) has grown into a town of 3,000 people with a view of the majestic Rocky Mountains in the distance. In 1890, the first golf course was built at Fort Macleod, between Winnipeg and the west coast. Long inhabited by the Blackfoot First Nations, many small events and antique displays punctuate the months of the year in the city. Now turned to agriculture, it is considered the premier cattle ranching center in Western Canada. Visit the North West Mounted Police Fort Museum.
