A village at the end of the Congo, perched close to the Central African border some 850 km from Brazzaville, Bétou rests lazily on the right bank of the Oubangui River. Bétou, like Mossaka, is a city on the country's borders. The last town from which trucks and whaleboats leave for Bangui, 200 kilometers away. In the wake of the CAR conflict and the influx of refugees, Bétou's face has changed with the establishment of refugee camps and the presence of numerous NGOs and institutions: UNICEF, UNHCR, Terre sans Frontières, WFP, etc. In 2009, more than 60,000 refugees were welcomed here following the Dongo conflict.
