Pisco Elquí is a pleasant little village with cobbled streets and superb scenery, situated at an altitude of 1,280 m. In 1939, at the suggestion of President Videla, it was named Pisco Elquí to thwart Peruvian claims to international exclusivity over the term "Pisco". Many tourists consider Pisco Elqui a must-see, and stay for two or three days. The little village is well worth a visit, but a single day will do. After dark, the atmosphere is very calm. A well-deserved visit, but, as you'll have guessed, it's not a place to stay for long (and accommodation is expensive)!
