The Juno Beach Centre, a unique place that tells the Canadian story in a different way! Located on the D-Day beaches where Canadian troops fought on June 6, 1944, this museum pays tribute to the extraordinary commitment of these soldiers. Did you know that 45,000 Canadians sacrificed their lives during the Second World War, including 5,500 during the Battle of Normandy and 381 on June 6, 1944? That's what this center is all about: helping visitors discover this little-known page of history. Founded in 2003 by passionate veterans, the site combines museum and cultural center with an innovative approach. The surrounding Juno Park features remnants of the Atlantic Wall, and from April to October, tours led by Canadian guides of the beach and the observation and command bunker will literally transport you back to 1944! Don't miss: the Remembrance Rekindled commemorative sculpture, the Inuksuk, historic cannons (Bofor 44 mm, Mark II) and commemorative bricks dedicated to Canadians. When it comes to sustainable development, the center has no shortage of ideas! Since 2019, it has even been offering preferential rates to visitors using environmentally-friendly means of transport (train, bus and/or bicycle). The Visages du Canada d'aujourd'hui permanent exhibition space has been entirely redesigned using natural materials, and the scenography is based around the symbolic poppy. A lively, educational and moving place that transmits memory with passion. A must for all history buffs!
