A 2-hour walk will take you to Karsha Gompa, or Karsha Chamspalling, 7 km from Padum. An excellent opportunity to discover the surrounding area and warm up for a longer trek. This white monastery clinging to a steep mountain is the largest in Zanskar, built in the 10th century and housing around 150 monks. A bus runs between Karsha and Padum every day. Accommodation is available in Karsha, with guesthouses offering basic rooms. These include the Thieur and Thinkuling guesthouses. Don't be fussy about comfort.
