A museum in Colleville-sur-Mer covering the period from the Allied landings in Normandy to the liberation of Paris.

Located in Colleville-sur-Mer, on Omaha Beach and opposite the access traffic circle to the American cemetery, the Overlord museum, which opened on June 5, 2013, retraces the period from the Allied landings in Normandy to the liberation of Paris on August 25, 1944. A unique collection, assembled over 50 years. There's no other museum like it on the coast. At the heart of the memorial sites dedicated to the D-Day Landings of June 6, 1944 and the Battle of Normandy, it is exemplary in its educational approach. It's the one Nicolas Leloup imagined to honor the memory of his father, Michel, and showcase his collection, meticulously assembled over nearly half a century on the sites of the events. In the middle of this space, you'll feel very small in front of these disproportionately large but real (scale 1) machines, tanks, cannons... The reconstructed civilian and military scenes, with mannequins and objects from everyday life, are red threads that draw us in. The sound backdrops recreate those of this painful period. The collection (10,000 items and objects, over 35 vehicles, tanks and cannons weighing up to 50 tonnes) and the life-size setting (2,200 m²) are impressive, especially in these troubled times. An immersive experience that plunges you into the heart of history, combining realism and reflection. Guided tours are available for schoolchildren, with educational workshops.

Passionnant et immersif !
Un très beau musée avec des mises en scène réalistes qui nous plongent dans l’histoire. Beaucoup de véhicules et de matériel d’époque, accompagnés d’explications claires et intéressantes.

I've been wanting to visit this museum for over ten years, but it was disappointing when I finally did. It's just a collection of stuff from the Battle of Normandy set up as eight or ten dioramas with mannequins and vehicles. There isn't any educational value. The rest of it is a merchandise store almost as large as the museum portion, where you can by any type of Normandy-related souvenir.

I thought this might be another plastic mama Quinn stuffed warehouse, but it was brilliant. They put a lot of attention to detail into the scenes, and the highlight was the frames and stories of actual veterans that were there right at the end.
