It is in Colleville-sur-Mer, overlooking Omaha Beach, that the American military cemetery and its interpretation centre are located. Remembrance tourism is an integral part of daily life. Colleville, the quiet town, was the scene of one of the bloodiest operations of the D-Day landings, immortalized in Steven Spielberg's film Il faut sauver le soldat Ryan. Only a small part of it was actually filmed, but not the least, since it is the first and last scene that takes place in the American cemetery, made even more impressive by the travelling shot that gradually reveals the endless expanse of the crosses.
