Bhavnagar, a former capital of a princely state, is of limited tourist interest, except for a few sites. The Nilambag Palace, an elegant building built in 1859 by a German architect, is worth a look. And if you can afford it, you can even stay there, as it has been converted into a luxury hotel. The Takhteshwar temple is a beautiful white marble temple dedicated to Shiva. Located on a hill in the center, it offers a nice view of the city. Bhavnagar's location makes it a convenient base for exploring the temples of Palitana or for cutting the road from Diu to Ahmedabad in half.
