Perm, with the population of 1,053,958, is the capital of the Krai, situated at the 1,434 km of the Trans-Siberian Railway. It was built on the banks of the Kama River at the mouth of the Chusovaya River. Its port, of national importance, is connected to no less than five European seas: Caspian, White, Black, Azov and Baltic. Infrastructure engineering, timber, refinery, chemical and petrochemical industry, telecommunications and IT make it the leading industrial city of the Urals. Perm is nestled in a more or less well-preserved natural environment (the industrial fabric of the region has been widely developed), more than half of which is made up of forests and hills, which are irrigated by no less than 300 rivers. Its heritage, both well preserved and enhanced, is a delight for travellers.
