Al Kamil is a junction town located at an important crossroads between Al Ashkharah on one side (on the coastal road towards the far south), Sur on the other (to the east, on the road to Muscat or the Turtle Reserve), Ibra inland and Muscat in the distance. This makes it a lively and animated place to stop for shopping and picnicking in the nearby Wadi Bani Khalid. Like most strategic points, the heights of Al Kamil are surmounted by watchtowers and the city has a fort. The gazelle reserve of Al Saleel is a dozen kilometres away
