Ibra was once divided in two due to tribal disagreements. One district (Alayat) was the stronghold of the Al-Maskri tribe, the other (Sufalat) of the Al-Harthy tribe. The town's main source of income was agriculture (dates, various fruits and vegetables), as can still be seen today in the stalls of the souk. The souk is renowned for its silver kandjars, carved doors and the fact that it is reserved exclusively for women on Wednesday mornings - making it a tourist attraction. A stopover in Ibra is also an opportunity to visit Al-Manzifat - an old fortified town with beautiful remains.
