Dochi is a village where many truckers stop. We are about kilometres away from Pul-e-Khumri, the largest industrial city in Afghanistan. The small town is ideal for a lunch. On the banks of the river Anderab, which flows into the Amu-Darya, and at the bottom of the Salang Gorges, it is a very pleasant site. There are large trees along the streets. There are about 5 000 inhabitants, many of whom are ismaili. After 1992, the area of Dochi with its environs was under the domination of the ismaili leader, Sayed Djafar Naderi, before being taken by Ahmad Shah Massoud, Abdul Rachid Dostom, and then the Taliban in 1997. Taken back by Massoud in 1998, Dochi remained in the hands of the Taliban until 2001.In Dochi's little Bazaar, try the aloekounchi. These walnut cakes are one of the specialties of the village.
