Museum of the Royal Treasure with more than 1,000 royal pieces as well as collections of gold jewelry and precious stones.

The latest addition to Lisbon, the museum, which opened on June1, 2022, is the third in the world to display the jewels of a country's royal treasury, after the United Kingdom and Austria. It is the second richest museum in the world after the British Crown Jewels. Unique in its size and state-of-the-art security system, it is in fact a vault of 4,000m3, one of the largest in the world, which was built in the west wing of the Ajuda Palace. This royal treasure museum contains most of the pieces that Portugal has managed to keep in its vaults. More than a thousand pieces that belonged to the Portuguese royalty, for nine centuries, are displayed on three floors. Plunged into the darkness, you will discover collections of gold jewelry encrusted with rubies, diamonds and other precious stones, including an emblematic piece. You will also be able to admire a collection of silverware that will delight goldsmiths.

In addition, religious art objects such as a censer, a mitre decorated with stones, crowns worthy of tales that will please lovers of arts and crafts. The new technologies are well present and allow an approach in four dimensions of certain pieces. A museum that immerses us in the grandiose history of Portugal. We discover the riches coming from Brazil. To better understand this permanent exhibition, do not lose the chronology of the history of Portugal given at the entrance of the museum. Last entrance one hour before closing time.

Espaço maravilhoso onde nos é dada a possibilidade de ver obras de arte em joalharia e percorrer uma parte da História de Portugal. Muito bonito

When we were about to depart from Ajuda Palace and return to the city, the information desk informed us about the Royal Treasure Museum behind the main building, and it turned out to be a fantastic surprise. The Museo Tesouro Real has an incredible collection of crown treasures ranging from gold and diamonds, coins and medals, jewels, precious royal brooches, and private collections that are worth checking out and should be noticed. Before leaving, I highly recommend checking out the museum's cafeteria, where we had one of the best Portuguese coffees with a cinnamon stick. The layered cake made by the pastry chef was lovely.
