National Day, 10 June, which is celebrated with major events throughout the country.

It is the day on which Portugal is celebrated, the writer Luís Camões and the Portuguese community. There are military parades and demonstrations and cultural events. What they do not say is that during the dictatorship, the Portuguese race was called that day (not really possible today). Camões being associated with great discoveries, this association was used to give the Portuguese a sense of belonging to a great nation.
