GROTE MARKT

A whole part of the square was unfortunately destroyed during the Second World War, and was rebuilt in a very uninspired style, not to say ugly... Cafés, historical monuments, this square is the quintessence of the city. The Martinitoren, is the pride of all its inhabitants who affectionately call it "Olle Grieze", the old gray because of the color of the sandstone. Its construction lasted from 1465 to 1482. It is 97 meters high and has 6 floors and is the third highest tower in the country. The forum gives a real impulse to the square.
