An incredible complex in Groningen, simply beautiful and peaceful, offering a beautiful view of St. Joseph's Cathedral
This incredible complex was founded in 1517 and built with stones that came from a demolished castle. It welcomed the plague victims and then the insane until 1844... Part of the income of the complex came from Sunday visitors who paid to come and see the madmen... Another time which is fortunately over. The complex is simply magnificent and peaceful and offers a beautiful view of the Saint Joseph cathedral. It is of course a protected monument. A special booklet has been published for the 500 years of the site.
