All-white parking lot designed by Dutch architect Piet Zanstra, a true work of art in Amsterdam
From ugliness to beauty. For a long time, this parking lot in the Jordaan district was considered the ugliest building in the city. This is no longer the case. This all-white parking lot is an emblematic silhouette of the capital, a sort of Amsterdam Guggenheim. Designed by Dutch architect Piet Zanstra, it was inaugurated in 1972. Spencer Tunick photographed 2,000 naked people there. A few years ago, the Waterkant tropical bar opened its doors in a container at the bottom of the parking lot. This building has become iconic almost in spite of itself!
