A stone's throw from the zoo, the Berlage fortress is another iconic work by Bourse architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage. Built at the beginning of the XXᵉ century to house the diamond syndicate headed by Henri Polak, the building evokes a mini-castle or church made entirely of brick. The interior, a real surprise for visitors, stands out for its colors - declensions of yellows and blues - its monumental staircase and original chandeliers.
