The village of Pongola is surrounded by private reserves. The large Lake Pongola is located in the large nature reserve of the same name between Jozini and Golela. Whether you come from the north, across the sugar cane plain, or from the south, leaving behind the reddish bush of Maputaland, this lake is a visual shock because it seems to be a sea over nearly 30 000 ha, until it disappears on the horizon between the jaws of the black mountains.
