This reserve dating from 1897 now forms the eastern part of the huge Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park. Africa's oldest game reserve takes its name from the river that runs through it: in Zulu, Hluhluwe refers to the many creepers in the trees along the water's edge. You can explore these landscapes, and dream of being Tarzan, by taking the 90 km of tracks well maintained by the rangers. Two auto trails, with orientation map, are proposed. Specialist Peter Joyce recommends the section between Seme and Gunjaneni. There are more than 80 species of mammals, including rhinoceros, lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards..., and 425 species of birds.
