DE OUDE DROSTDY MUSEUM
Neoclassical-style building housing the local judge-governor.
This old drostdy, where the local judge-governor used to live and sit, is enough to justify a trip to Tulbagh. According to legend, the magistrates decided to settle so far from the town in order to discourage litigants. The building was erected in 1804, in a neoclassical style, according to plans by French architect Louis-Michel Thibault, then abandoned in 1822 and transferred to Worcester, following a storm that severely damaged it. Shaken by the 1969 earthquake, the drostdy has been magnificently restored.
