At the time of the Great Trek, a group of pioneers led by Adam Enslin, the Bible in one hand, the rifle in the other, believed discovering the source of the Nile here. Everything was consistent: a pyramid shaped hill (the Kranskop), a river (actually the Mogalakwena), reeds. The site was christened «Nylstroom» and the watercourse, «Nyl». The small group of Jerusalemgangers even chasser the reformed pastor of the Church. Today, the region, mainly oriented towards agriculture, produces peanuts and table grapes. From the pioneer era, the village kept the atmosphere and religious rigour. In 2002, during our last visit, dragging fatty paper was still an unknown species. Good news! Of course, for the evening atmosphere, Nylstroom has nothing to do with Salvador de Bahia… But we don't come for the samba.
