The 28,000-hectare reserve is part of the South Africa-Botswana-Zimbabwe Transfrontier Park. Wild animals are gradually being acclimatized with a view to creating a "Big Five" zone. The wild beauty of these landscapes of ochre sandstone spurs, set in a sea of baobab trees, is fantastic. The elephants are, of course, the highlight of the show. Unlike all the country's other national parks, Mapungubwe is not entirely fenced off to allow the elephants to migrate, and they don't hesitate to crush the remaining barbed wire along the banks.Travellers interested in ancient history should sign up for a guided tour of the lost city, inaccessible by their own means. This option allows you to climb the royal hill by a dizzying staircase between wild fig trees and, up there, discover the traces on the ground of the dwellings as well as a fascinating awale game board carved into the rock. A rhinoceros made of gold leaf was found here, in the king's tomb. Panoramic view and hundreds of rock paintings and engravings. The View Point platforms overlooking the Limpopo River offer a breathtaking widescreen panorama. Stop off at the Boardwalk.
