This village of 2,700 inhabitants is known for its castle, which is divided into two parts from different periods. The first one dates back to the Arab occupation and was built on a Roman structure with a rectangular plan and circular towers. The second one, in Renaissance style, dates back to the 15th century and was the former house of the Counts of Oropesa, a noble family from Toledo. The most recent part is now a national parador. The Plaza del Navarro is the main square of Oropesa. The streets of the historic center still have some remarkable buildings, such as the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (15th century) and the Jesuit College (16th century).
