An ancient city that disappeared, wiped out following invasions in the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC, Menzel Temime rose from its ashes in the 13th century as a base for the struggle against the Norman occupation. From the XVIIIth century with the M'aouine, it is famous in the region for its promoters of free education. Bastion of nationalism and knowledge, the city will continue this same destiny in the twentieth century as it will play a leading role in the struggle for independence by the call in 1934 for the holding of the first congress of Neo-Destour and the establishment of the first cell neo-Destour Cape Bon. The cemetery of the city occupies small hills crowned with a series of marabouts, one of which, that of Sidi Salem, has five domes. The city of Menzel Temime is currently in full expansion with the establishment of an industrial zone where factories manufacture products for export and employ a large female workforce. It is also a production center for peanuts, tomatoes and especially peppers, which in August and September are dried or smoked with olive wood. This large town on the east coast of Cap Bon is a lively and youthful city. Also appreciated for its beaches, Menzel Temime also hosts one of the largest weekly markets in the country (Tuesdays).
