Kaposvár (meaning «the castle on the Mentioned») is the head of the department of Somogy and is worth a visit. Throughout its history, this country was tried by many invaders. In the th century there was one of Hungary's richest abbeys. It is also the birthplace of the painter József Rippl-Rónai, father of Art Nouveau in Hungary, and reformer Imre Nagy (tragically executed). The city extends to the Mentioned River valley. Its centre is formed by Place tér square, which is an extended extension of the pedestrian street Fő utca. In the square there is a huge statue of Kossuth. Near the Baroque church of the th century is a very beautiful column of the Virgin that belonged to the Festetics family. The municipality benefiting from European funding has already renovated a number of its streets, including Ady Erstand utca.
