An ideal nature destination, this town of 6,600 inhabitants, discovered by hippies in the 1960s, is nestled in a forest of giant eucalyptus trees. A few minutes away, a spectacular inlet, the Wilson Inlet, opens onto the ocean. A little further on, Ocean Beach is a paradise for surfers and birdwatchers alike. Beaches are one of the region's main attractions. Lights Beach, with its natural swimming pool, is well worth a visit, as are the superb Greens Pool and Elephant Cove sites along the William Bay Road. A little further afield, West Cape Howe, WA's most southerly point, is a paradise for hikers and paragliders alike! Numerous wineries can be found in the region, especially along the Mount Shadforth Scenic Drive: tastings, visits to galleries and workshops of local artisans are on the menu of this 15 km tourist route. The surrounding countryside can sometimes feel like a bygone era!
