Located 14 km from the sea, Bundaberg is a popular destination for diving on the Great Barrier Reef and watching the famous turtles (mainly from Bargara). This charming little town where you can enjoy the atypical architecture of old buildings is also popular among backpackers looking for work in fruit picking. This city is the cradle of Bundaberg's highly prized rum and is renowned for its sugar cane production. The region also offers beautiful beaches and tropical parks such as the Botanic Gardens. Take the Burnett Bridge to reach the city centre from the north: this pretty old bridge dates back to 1900.
