In the space of a few kilometres, we feel like we are in the last century, during the gold rush. The trail winds between the heaps of the small individual mines in a quasi-moon landscape, burned by drought and ripped by researchers of a very hypothetical fortune. Electricity came to Sapphire only in 1972.Every two years, in August, the Gemfields organizes the Wheelbarrow Race festival, lasting ten days. A Wheelbarrow Race celebrates the memory of a stone researcher, Darkie Garnet, who made fortune three times. He spent her early in wine and in women, and rolled as he came, pushing his wheelbarrow and rich in his only balluchon. For three Days in August, the Gemfest exhibited Australia's finest sapphires.
