Agüimes, located in the province of Las Palmas in Spain, is a charming town divided into three distinct parts: the summit, agriculture and the coast. In the historic center of Agüimes, visitors can admire the Temple Paroissial de San Sebastián, a neoclassical building declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument. Nearby is the Hotel Casa de los Camellos, a three-hundred-year-old building that once belonged to an aristocratic family. In the Plaza de San Antón, you'll find the Centro d'Interpretación d'Agüimes, where you can learn more about the city's architecture, art and history. The Palacio Epicopal, now home to the Agüimes History Museum and the Parque de los Moros, is also worth a visit. For nature lovers, the area around Agüimes offers magnificent landscapes, such as Temisas, with its mountains and olive grove, and Guayadeque, a deep ravine home to a troglodyte village and restaurants carved out of the rock. Finally, Agüimes also offers beaches, including Playa de Vargas, renowned for extreme windsurfing, and Playa d'El Cabrón, ideal for scuba diving. For more tourist information, visit the tourist office in the old town.

Le (or ravine) of Guayadeque is classified as a natural monument and a cultural interest. The road that gremlin at the bottom of the Barranco is magnificent, and follows the course of a rio seco with a lush nature, populated with many almond almonds in the spring. In the heart of the Barranco is Cueva Bermeja, a cave village of prehispanic origin. You will also see the chapel of San Bartolomé Apostol, carved in the mountain. Many testimonies of the pre-Hispanic civilization have been found, such as mummies and cave paintings.

Restaurants. Several restaurants and bars, placed in natural rock, offer local cuisine. We recommend you El Centro or Le Tagoror which offers authentic evenings with typical cuisine and to discover the folklore of the islands.

Hiking. An easy walk runs through the ravine and allows you to discover the natural and cultural riches of the site. The trail starts at km 2,2 of the GC 103 road, shortly after the centre, with interpretation and winds up to Cueva Bermeja. Count 3 hours return.

BARRANCO DE BALOS

Site of archaeology crafts and science and technology

Near Agüimes you will find the Lomo de los Letreros, the hill of inscriptions, located between the barrancos of Temisas and Balos. It is probably the most important set of rock inscriptions in Gran Canaria. The natural support of these Petroglyphs is a basalt massif that rises in the middle of the Barranco de Balos. It is thought that it may have been a sacred place for the Aborigines, with geometric shapes and human representations schematized as lines that may suggest the fingers of a hand.
