Vrontados, 5 km north-east of the capital, is a tourist village famous for its daskalopetra (stone of the master) where, according to tradition, Homer used to sit and enchant his disciples with colorful stories. However, it seems that the famous stone is rather a vestige of a sanctuary of Cybele! Beyond this pretty archaeological site under the pines, the village is not very interesting. It is mainly the gateway to the northeast of Chios. This quiet coastline, which never leaves the Turkish shores out of sight, is punctuated by tender marinas and small beaches. You can visit the pretty port of Lagada, famous for its fish taverns and from which you can reach the islet of Inoussès by caïque. Make a detour to the very photogenic chapel of Agios Isidoros of Sykiada, which seems to float on the waves. It closes the beach of the same name where a design beach bar, the OZ BAR, has been installed. Further north, we visit the village of Kardamyla, in the hills, and its coastal counterpart in Marmaro. A long maritime tradition has shaped the local architecture: the neoclassical houses are pleasantly successive. Further north, you can swim on the beautiful Giosonas beach with its pebbled beaches and turquoise waters. This coastline is bordered by impressive mountains and wild highlands: there is the village of Pitious, known for its tasty tavern. An area to explore by car.
