The ancient Acropolis of Rhodes - not fortified - dominates the entire city. There were massive temples and all the places of power and public life of the city. The whole site dates from the late Hellenistic period (between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC). The excavations began under the Italian occupation in 1912 but are still not completed. In particular, you will see an impressive reconstruction of the 210-metre-long stadium, a theatre that could accommodate 800 spectators and temples dedicated to Zeus and Athena.

vraiment a ne pas manquer et ne pas s’arrêter au début avec l’échafaudage mais faire le tour . Pas très bien indiqué mais a voir impérativement et en plus visite gratuite .

Installée sur une très vaste surface cette Acropole, se révèle bien agréable à visiter beau stade en particulier ; Site quasi désert en Octobre .
Le site domine la ville de Rhodes et offre un panorama superbe . Stationnement facile, mais le site n'est pas très facile à trouver du fait d'indications routières en pointillé .

Il sert de parc aux habitants qui y font leur jogging. L'entrée n'est donc ni gardée, ni payante.
Tout en haut se trouve des colonnes qui ont été "remontées" avec des blocs de manière un peu anarchique.
L'accès au niveau inférieur n'est pas facile à trouver. on ne sait pas si on peut passer ou non !!!!
En-dessous se trouve le théâtre qui a malheureusement été rénové avec des blocs de marbre bien trop blancs, qui ne correspondent pas au matériau d'origine et qui font un peu trop neuf !
La reconstruction du stade est impressionnante et plus réussie.
