Follow us on this escapade under the gentle Cycladic sun!

Day 1: What to do in Mykonos in 3 days? Chora, Windmills and Little Venice

Your stay starts off with a bang, with three must-sees in Mykonos: Chora, the Windmills and Little Venice.

Morning: Visit charming Chora

We loved exploring Chora, the capital of Mykonos! Did you know that the word "Chora" actually means "city"? Quite simply! Here, the narrow, winding lanes are full of charm, lined with white houses on which flowers climb the walls. Although we found the town very busy (especially in summer), it's easy to let yourself wander. From charming little churches to the port of Mykonos, the change of scenery is everywhere.

During your first morning in the heart of Chora, we invite you to discover thechurch of Paraportianilocated in the Kastro district. Made of the same white lime as the houses, it's a perfect example of the uniqueness of Mykonos. Don't hesitate to discover its fascinating history, which unfolds as you visit! We also recommend this half-day guided tour of Mykonos, where you can see the main historical sites and discover all the traditions and history of the island.

Petit Futé Tip: if you can, visit Mykonos outside school vacations, to avoid the crowds. Not possible for you? In that case, opt for the Easter or All Saints' vacations, or even the May bank holidays, when the crowds will be less dense than at the height of summer (and the heat less intense!).

Afternoon: Moulins à Vent and Petite Venise at sunset

After a hearty meal of kopanist cheese or Kremidopita (a kind of onion pie), set course for the famous windmills of Kato Mili! They are one of the most emblematic symbols of Mykonos. We loved discovering these perfectly preserved relics of another era, dating back to the 16th century. Do you like panoramas that offer great photo opportunities and plenty of pretty memories? You'll love the view from up here, overlooking the Aegean Sea and the old town.

After this bucolic stroll, head for Little Venice (no less famous!) right next door. This must-see district of Mykonos, with its colorful houses lining the water, is a veritable little corner of paradise! It's great to get lost here as the sun sets, making the facades glow in a golden light... Our favorite moment: settling down on a terrace to savor a cocktail, while enjoying a superb sunset.

Good to know: these two visits can be quite quick. So, before sipping a drink by the water in the evening, don't hesitate to indulge in a little shopping. It's the perfect time!

Day 2: What to do in Mykonos in 3 days? Delos and beach

You've still got a few museums and the Mykonos hinterland to discover, but first... a bit of exploring in the surrounding area and a bit of lazing around !

Morning: Excursion to Delos

To start our second day, we took the ferry from Mykonos to the island of Delos. It's a half-hour journey by sea, which gives you plenty of time to get the day off to a good start. We take our time to relax, observing the surrounding seascape and the islands in the distance...

Once there, the surprise is total! A whole part of Cycladic history is revealed to us, through the many archaeological remains. From the Sanctuary of Apollo to the Lions' Quarter, the Temple of Isis and the Temple of Dionysus, historical sights are everywhere! Other visits in the same style that we were able to make include:

  • the theater district
  • the Terrace of the Foreign Gods,
  • the synagogue of Delos.

And don't miss the island's Archaeological Museum to learn even more! Feeling adventurous? Take on the island's highest point at just 115 metres above sea level. Admittedly, it's not very high, but at the end of the climb, it's enough to make anyone gasp. The summit is reached via an ancient stone staircase, and offers lovely views. Be careful, take your courage in both hands, and enjoy!

Good to know: delos is said to be the birthplace of the gods Apollo and Artemis. Can you believe it?

Afternoon: lazing on the beach

Mykonos is also a dream destination for beach lovers. We had the opportunity to discover several beaches, and the good news is that there's something for everyone! Looking for something lively and easily accessible? Paradise Beach seems to us to be the perfect place. Party-goers beware!

Psarou Beach, 5 km from Chora, is surely the most chic beach on the island. Perhaps you'll even bump into a few celebrities... Prefer something a little calmer ? Like us, fall under the spell ofAgios Sostis. A little more isolated, this beach is a true haven of peace, far from the hustle and bustle, with a wild, natural setting. The perfect place to recharge your batteries!

Finally, how about an even more secret getaway? Follow us to Fokos, Mykonos' hidden beach. Surrounded by hills, it's the perfect place to escape the crowds. In short, every beach on Mykonos has its own charm, but one thing's for sure: you'll always find a perfect spot to enjoy the sun and crystal-clear water!

Day 3: What to do in Mykonos in 3 days? From hinterland to safari adventure!

We're moving away from the hustle and bustle of Chora and its crowded beaches, to take refuge in the hinterland.

Morning: Safari off the beaten track

Dreaming of an unforgettable Mykonos adventure off the beaten track? We thought a jeep safari, bookable right here, would be just the experience for you!

Departing from the Old Port, you'll get behind the wheel of a 4x4 for an excursion across the island. Your local guide will take you to secret beaches or inland villages, such as Ano Mera, to which you can return more peacefully later, if you wish. Your adventure takes you from the ruins of the Venetian castle of Paleokastro to an abandoned mine, giving you a fascinating insight into the island's industrial past. A fascinating adventure!

Good to know: these excursions are generally full-day tours (7 hours). So allow plenty of time, and why not add a visit to the hinterland to round off the day.

Afternoon: visit the Mykonos hinterland

Petit Futé's favorite activity: Discover a more authentic side of Mykonos, far from the tourist crowds , by booking this tour of the island to discover secluded villages, hidden harbors and secret beaches.

The Mykonos hinterland is a veritable adventure playground! If you haven't opted for a safari, you can get there on your own. Our favorite: a trip to Ano Meraa quiet village on the eastern side of the island. Our impression is simple: time seems to stand still. Surrounded by traditional tavernas, it really is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet meal in a bucolic setting. The Panagia Tourliani monastery, founded in 1542 and adorned with superb frescoes, is a must-see.

For its part, Milos offers a wilder, more soothing setting. With its white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, you're in the right place for a relaxing day away from the crowds.

You've already toured the hinterland and want to see even more? There are many more Cycladic treasures just a boat trip away. Among them, Tinos, a neighboring island still untouched by mass tourism. If you're looking for a different way to travel, you've come to the right place! With its traditional villages and authentic atmosphere, the charm is absolutely everywhere.

Day 4: What to do in Mykonos in 4 days? Museums and cruises

What luck, you can stay an extra day in Mykonos! Do you like to discover the history of the places you visit? We recommend the Archaeological Museum and the Aegean Maritime Museum! As these museums are located in Chora, you can also visit them quickly on the first day, during your exploration of the town, if you're only staying 3 days in Mykonos.

You can also choose to take part in this half-day guided tour of Mykonos! You'll see the main historical sites and learn all about the island's traditions and history .

Morning: Folklore Museum and Aegean Maritime Museum

Your last morning of your 4 days in Mykonos begins in its pretty Folklore Museum. We found it comfortably housed in a traditional 19th-century house, inviting us on a journey into the island's past. You too can discover a fascinating collection of traditional costumes, antique furniture, ceramics and musical instruments. Here, every object has a purpose: to tell you about the island's customs and history!

After this immersion in history, it's on to the Maritime Museum of the Aegean, located in the Tria Pigadia district. You've come to the right place! From models of ancient ships to maritime charts and vintage navigational instruments, each object has its own fascinating story to tell. Ancient coins and barnacle-encrusted amphorae plunge you into the intensity of Greek maritime life. However, our favorite part is the museum garden. Punctuated by reproductions of ancient tombstones, we found it a quiet, pleasant place to lose ourselves a little more in the island's maritime history.

Good to know: admission to the Folklore Museum is free. You can leave a small donation of your choice to support its development.

Afternoon: Mini-cruise on the Aegean Sea

Many boat excursions depart from Mykonos. So it was rather difficult for us to choose! Some head for Delos and Rhenaeus, like the one you can book right here, while others take you to discover theisland of Dragonisi, whose secret caves definitely won us over. Looking for a different experience? Many islands can be discovered on a boat trip, for a full or half day. These include Tinoswhich we mentioned earlier. What we particularly like about these sea outings are the "little extras" compared to a simple ferry trip:

  • swimming,
  • snorkelling,
  • traditional lunch, etc.

Looking for an even more original experience? Why not book a sunset mini-cruise right here? In this pretty corner of the Cyclades, they're absolutely superb!
