40 km from Katerini, if you continue a little further south on the E75 motorway, you will arrive at the small seaside resort of Platamonas, quite touristy but not unpleasant. Its population is about 1,500 inhabitants, living mainly from tourism. Platamonas is an interesting destination because of its very well preserved Byzantine castle. However, on its own, it probably wouldn't be worth or attract as much travel, but with the beach below, the area does have some arguments to make. Platamonas beach is an interesting stop. Perfect for children, as it is shallow, it also has restaurants.
